There are few things more comforting than a warm muffin, and this fig muffin recipe is the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The addition of figs gives these muffins a delicate sweetness. These muffins are perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Figs are a delicious and nutritious fruit that offer a range of potential health benefits. They are a good source of dietary fiber, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, as well as vitamins K and B6. Figs have been shown to help lower blood pressure, improve digestion, and have anti-inflammatory and cancer-fighting properties.

Fig Facts

One interesting fact about figs is that they are not actually a fruit, but a type of inverted flower. The seeds inside are the true fruit. Figs have been cultivated by humans for thousands of years and were one of the first plants to be grown. In ancient Greece, figs were considered a sacred fruit and were associated with Dionysus, the god of wine and fertility.

Another interesting fact is that the fig tree is often mentioned in the Bible. It was reportedly the tree under which Adam and Eve covered themselves after eating the forbidden fruit. Figs were once used as a sweetener before the widespread use of sugar and were even used to make a type of non-alcoholic wine called “fig wine.

Figs are a versatile fruit that can be enjoyed fresh or dried, and are often used in a range of sweet and savory dishes. They can be paired with cheese, added to salads, or used in baking. Figs have a unique texture and taste, and are a popular ingredient in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Figs around the world

The majority of figs in the world are grown and exported from Mediterranean countries, such as Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Spain, Morocco, and Italy. These countries have a long history of fig cultivation and have favorable growing conditions, including a warm climate and fertile soil.

Turkey is the largest producer and exporter of figs in the world, accounting for around 25% of global fig production. Turkey is followed by Egypt, which is the second largest producer and exporter of figs. Other major producers of figs include Greece, Spain, Morocco, and Italy.

In addition to Mediterranean countries, figs are also grown and exported from other parts of the world, including California in the United States, Mexico, Chile, and Argentina. However, these countries account for a much smaller share of global fig production and export.

Figs moist and fluffy, with a hint of sweetness. And they’re perfect for a quick snack or breakfast on the go. But what really sets fig muffins apart is their nutritional value. Figs are a good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They’re also low in calories and fat. So if you’re looking for a healthy snack that’s also tasty, fig muffins are a great choice.

Ingredients

Units Scale

1 cup all purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tbsp sesame oil

2 cup fig compote

2 tbsp agave nectar

1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Pre heat oven to 380 degrees f. Grease muffins tray using cooking oil
  2. In a bowl add flour, baking powder and sea salt.
  3. Add sesame oil , fig compote in the mixture
  4. Mix well and then add to the greased muffins tray.
  5. Add chopped fig on top.
  6. Bake for 13 minutes.
  7. Ready to serve.

Notes

  1. Be careful not to overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter can result in tough muffins. To avoid this, mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  2. Don’t overbake the muffins: Overbaking can dry out the muffins and make them tough. To avoid this, keep a close eye on the muffins towards the end of the baking time and remove them from the oven as soon as a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Be sure to chop the figs finely: Chopping the figs into small pieces will help them distribute evenly throughout the muffin batter. If the figs are too large, they may sink to the bottom of the muffins.
  4. Use fresh ingredients: Using fresh ingredients, such as fresh figs and baking powder that is not expired, will help ensure that the muffins turn out well.
  5. Adjust the sugar content if necessary: Figs are naturally sweet, so you may need to adjust the amount of sugar in the recipe depending on how sweet you like your muffins.
