FAQs

  1. What type of bread is best for bread pudding? While any type of bread can be used, the most favored ones are brioche, challah, or French bread due to their ability to hold moisture and maintain structure.
  2. Can I make bread pudding ahead of time? Yes, bread pudding can be prepared in advance and refrigerated overnight before baking. This may even enhance the flavors as the bread has more time to soak up the custard mixture.
  3. How do I know when my bread pudding is done? The perfect bread pudding is firm to the touch but still moist. A knife inserted in the center should come out clean. However, ensure not to overcook it as it might turn dry.
  4. Can bread pudding be frozen? Absolutely! Bread pudding freezes well. Just ensure it’s cooled completely before wrapping it tightly and freezing.
  5. Can I use non-dairy milk in bread pudding? Yes, non-dairy alternatives like almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk work well in bread pudding.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Bread: You can substitute regular bread with gluten-free bread or croissants.
  • Milk: Dairy-free alternatives such as almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk can be used.
  • Sugar: If you prefer, honey or maple syrup can replace regular sugar.

Key Kitchen Tools

  • A deep baking dish for the perfect depth and even cooking.
  • A whisk to blend the custard ingredients smoothly.
