There are many reasons why fried cod fish sticks are so delicious. One reason is that they are fried in a batter that is seasoned with salt, pepper, and other spices. This gives them a flavor that is both savory and slightly spicy. Another reason is that the cod fish itself is a very mild-tasting fish, so it takes on the flavors of the batter very well. Lastly, fried cod fish sticks are usually served with a dipping sauce or tartar sauce, which adds another layer of flavor to the dish.

1 tbsp lemon pepper seasoning

1/2 cup oil

Notes

  • A healthier, cleaner alternative to deep frying is to use an Air Fryer.  Less smell, less cleanup and just as tasty.  You won’t be disappointed!
  • Make sure to use a thermometer to maintain the correct oil temperature. If the oil is too hot, it can smoke and become a fire hazard. If it is not hot enough, the food will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
  • When adding food to the oil, be careful to avoid splatters. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to gently lower the food into the oil.
  • In the unlikely event of a fire, it is important to have a fire extinguisher nearby to put out the flames.

When selecting cod at the grocery store, there are a few things you should consider.

  • Freshness: Look for cod that has a shiny, moist appearance and a clean, fresh smell. Avoid cod that looks dry or has a strong, fishy odor.
  • Cut: Cod is available in a variety of cuts, including fillets, steaks, and whole fish. Choose the cut that best suits your needs.
  • Packaging: Cod is available fresh, frozen, and in a variety of processed forms, such as breaded or coated. Choose the option that best meets your needs and preferences.
  • Sustainability: If you are concerned about the environmental impact of your seafood choices, look for cod that has been sustainably caught.
  • Price: Cod can vary in price depending on the cut, packaging, and location. Consider your budget and choose a product that fits your needs.

Other Fish Choices

There are many different types of fish that can be used to make fish sticks. Some common alternatives to cod include:

  • Haddock: This is another white fish that is similar to cod in flavor and texture, and is often used in fish and chips.
  • Pollock: This is a mild-flavored white fish that is often used as a cheaper alternative to cod or haddock.
  • Plaice: This is a flatfish with a delicate, sweet flavor and a tender, flaky texture.
  • Sole: This is another type of flatfish with a mild, sweet flavor and a delicate, flaky texture.
  • Flounder: This is a flatfish with a mild, sweet flavor and a delicate, flaky texture.
  • Whiting: This is a small, white fish with a delicate, sweet flavor and a tender, flaky texture.

Ultimately, the choice of fish for fish and chips will depend on personal preference and availability.
