Description
A Philly-style Chicken Hoagie brings together the robust flavors of seasoned, grilled chicken, sharp provolone cheese, and an array of fresh veggies. Packed into a crusty Italian roll, this sandwich is the perfect combination of hearty and refreshing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 Italian rolls
- 4 slices of provolone cheese
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- 1/2 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 tomato, sliced
- Shredded lettuce
- Mayonnaise or oil and vinegar, to taste
Instructions
- Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook for about 7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through and no longer pink in the middle.
- While the chicken is cooking, sauté the onion and bell pepper in a separate pan until they’re softened.
- Slice the Italian rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through, so they open like a book. If you prefer, you can lightly toast the rolls before building your Hoagie.
- Layer the cooked chicken, sautéed onions and peppers, and provolone cheese on the bottom half of each roll.
- Place the open sandwiches under a broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Top with lettuce, tomato slices, and your choice of mayo, oil, or vinegar.
- Close up the sandwiches and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious homemade Philly-style Chicken Hoagie!
Notes
- To add more flavor, marinate the chicken in your favorite marinade for a few hours or overnight before cooking.
- For a spicy kick, consider adding pickled jalapenos or a spicy mayo to your Hoagie.
