Mulled Wine

  • Author: Krista
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6 drinks 1x

Description

Mulled wine is a warm, spiced wine that is traditionally served during the colder months. It’s a delicious and easy way to warm up on a cold day, and it’s perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 750 ml bottle of red wine (such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 3 whole allspice berries
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or slow cooker, combine the red wine and honey. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the honey has dissolved.
  2. Add the orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, and nutmeg to the pot. Stir to combine.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until it is hot and the flavors have melded.
  4. Strain the mulled wine into a serving pitcher or individual mugs.
  5. Serve the mulled wine warm, garnished with a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

  1. Use a full-bodied red wine: A full-bodied red wine like Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot will work best for mulled wine because they have bold flavors that can stand up to the spices. Avoid using a light-bodied wine like Pinot Noir.
  2. Don’t boil the wine: It’s important to heat the wine gently and bring it to a simmer, but don’t let it boil. Boiling the wine will cause it to lose some of its flavor and aroma.
  3. Adjust the sweetness to taste: The amount of honey you use will depend on your personal preference. Start with 1/2 cup and taste the mixture as it simmers. If it’s not sweet enough, add a little more honey. If it’s too sweet, add a splash more wine.
  4. Experiment with different spices: In addition to the spices listed in the recipe, you can also add a few sliced ginger pieces or a star anise for a different flavor.
  5. Serve it warm: Mulled wine is best served warm, so keep it in a slow cooker or on the stove over low heat until you’re ready to serve it. You can also serve it in a insulated carafe to keep it warm.

  6. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a slice of fresh apple if desired.

Notes

  1. Use good quality apple cider: The quality of the apple cider you use will make a big difference in the taste of your spiked apple cider. Pomegranate Margarita:

Pomegranate Margarita

  • Author: Krista
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 drink 1x

Description

This festive twist on a classic margarita is made with pomegranate juice, lime juice, and tequila. You can rim the glass with sugar and pomegranate seeds for a festive touch.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1 ounce pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • Pomegranate seeds and lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Add the tequila, pomegranate juice, lime juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  3. Shake well to combine the ingredients and chill the mixture.
  4. Strain the mixture into a chilled margarita glass.
  5. Garnish the glass with pomegranate seeds and a lime wedge.
  6. Enjoy your pomegranate margarita!

Notes

To make simple syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until the sugar is fully dissolved. Let the syrup cool before using it in the cocktail.

This pomegranate margarita recipe should take about 5-10 minutes to make, depending on how long it takes you to gather the ingredients and prep them. The actual process of making the cocktail only takes a few minutes. You’ll need to fill a cocktail shaker with ice, add the ingredients, shake to combine, and strain the mixture into a glass. The simple syrup will take a few extra minutes to make, as it requires heating up the sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved, but it can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for future use.

This pomegranate margarita recipe makes one cocktail. If you’d like to make more than one, simply multiply the ingredients by the number of cocktails you’d like to make. For example, to make two cocktails, you would need 3 ounces of tequila, 2 ounces of pomegranate juice, 1 ounce of lime juice, and 1 ounce of simple syrup.

If you’re serving a crowd, you may want to mix the ingredients in a large pitcher instead of making individual cocktails. Simply combine the tequila, pomegranate juice, lime juice, and simple syrup in a pitcher, stir to combine, and serve over ice. You can also garnish the glasses with pomegranate seeds and lime wedges for a festive touch.

Keep in mind that this recipe makes a strong cocktail, so you may want to adjust the proportions depending on your personal preference and the size of the glasses you’re using. Feel free to experiment with the ratios to find the perfect balance of flavors for your taste.
